ATLANTA, GA. (TheCCSA.com) – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up its 2015-16 campaign following its fifth consecutive NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship appearance. This past weekend, freshmen Elise Haan (Naples, Fla.), Katie Latham (Deal, Kent, United Kingdom) and Fanny Teijonsalo (Espoo, Finland) represented the CCSA in this year’s NCAA Women’s Championships held at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center, March 16-19.
Haan got the Eagles on the scoreboard at the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season as she finished 16th in Friday evening’s 100-yard backstroke with a time 52.33. She was back in the pool Saturday morning and tied for 28th in 200-yard backstroke after touching the pads in 1:54.80 -- just .04 seconds shy of her CCSA title time. Haan entered the national meet with the 42nd-best qualifying mark and moved up 14 places in the preliminary event.
Latham and Teijonsalo also competed during Saturday morning’s preliminary events in the 100-yard freestyle. Latham finished 40th with a time of 49.29 seconds, while Teijonsalo finished 57th in 49.93 seconds. Latham’s time set a personal record in the event.
