MACON, Ga. – Florida State's pair of Vanessa Freire and Sierra Sanchez completed the opening weekend with a perfect 4-0 record and were rewarded as the first Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The pair went 4-0 on the opening weekend guiding the Seminoles to a perfect start to the 2016 season. The pair opened the season with a sweep over fellow CCSA member and No. 17-ranked South Carolina. The duo followed that match with another sweep, 21-19, 21-13, over the host school Arizona State.
On the next day, Freire and Sanchez helped Florida State remain undefeated by clinching the decisive third point in a 3-2 win over No. 15 Grand Canyon. After dropping the opening set 19-21, the pair made a comeback to take the second set 21-15 and then complete the win with a 15-11 decision in the third set. Freire and Sanchez closed out the weekend with a straight-set win over New Mexico.
The duo looks to remain undefeated when the Seminoles remain out west this week. Florida State's next match is a showdown with No. 4-ranked Long Beach State on March 9th. They will face No. 10 UCLA and Cal St. Northridge on March 10th, before going to Los Angeles, Calif. to take on the top-ranked USC Trojans.
