Cabrera’s teammate, Linda Shaw, also broke Daniel’s meet record to notch second place with a time of 4:48.17. Liberty’s Kristin VanDeventer placed third with a time of 4:52.00, which was good for ninth all-time in CCSA history.
FGCU once again rewrote history in the 200 individual medley as freshman Fanny Teijonsalo stayed below the two minute mark and broke her own CCSA all-time record of 2:00.08, which was set in preliminaries earlier in the morning, with a time of 1:58.29. FGCU’s Barbara Caraballo also held her time under two minutes as the junior finished in 1:59.64 to move into second place all-time in the CCSA. Christinia Elmgreen, also of FGCU, swam in 2:01.02 to place third, while Gardner-Webb’s London Schumacher notched fourth with a time of 2:01.54. All top-four finishers in today’s 200 individual medley placed NCAA ‘B’ cut times.
In the 50-yard freestyle, FGCU freshman Katie Latham took first place with a time of 22.64 and claimed seventh all-time in the CCSA record book. Liberty’s Kendall Hough placed second in 22.67, while teammate Rachel Hoeve took third with a time of 22.99. All three swimmers placed NCAA ‘B’ cut times.
FGCU’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Fanny Teijonsalo, Barbara Caraballo, Sara Hamilton and Katie Latham saw first place with a time of 1:30.62. Liberty’s Kendall Hough, Rachel Hoeve, Chelsea Pond and Prudence Rooker swam in 1:31.08 to place second.
