Athens, Ga. (TheCCSA.com) – The Incarnate Word men’s swimming and diving team is in first place with 193 points after the first day of the 2016 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championship at University of Georgia’s Gabrielson Natatorium.
Old Dominion is second with 189 points and UMBC is third with 180 points. Florida Atlantic is fourth with 136 points, while NJIT is fifth with 125 points. Gardner-Webb is in sixth with 114 points and Howard is in seventh with 92 points, followed by VMI with 88 points.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Incarnate Word’s A-Team of Beau Fusilier, Kyrylo Shvets, Jack Hennessy and Connor Hennessy took the victory with a time of 6:33.10. UMBC placed second in 6:34.21 followed by Old Dominion with a time of 6:35.27.
Gardner-Webb’s 200-yard medley relay team Connor Bos, Jake Ennis, Tyler Gomez and Nathan Lile claimed first place with a time of 1:27.72. Old Dominion placed second with a time of 1:28.39, while UMBC took third place with a time of 1:28.81.
Florida Atlantic junior Ryan McIntire claimed first place in the 1-meter dive with a score 349.00, which broke the CCSA Championship meet record as well as the overall CCSA record. His score put him at No. 1 in the CCSA record books ahead College of Charleston's Peter Gibbons who scored 320.45 in 2013. McIntire also bested UMBC's Pak Wong of UMBC who set the overall CCSA record with a score of 329.77 in 2015. ODU’s Corey Moreno finished second with a score of 309.95, while teammate Danny Rabe finished third with a score of 290.95.
The CCSA Championship will continue with the second day of action on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 10:00 a.m., starting with the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries. The event finals for day two will start at 6:00 p.m.
