CCSA Women's Swimming & Diving Recap for Jan. 15-16

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Georgia Southern Swimming & Diving finished its penultimate meet of the 2015-16 regular season on Saturday by closing out a pair of meet wins over Gardner-Webb and SCAD. The Eagles held big leads in the opening day of both contests and finished the victory out with three event wins on Saturday at SCAD. Next up is a trip to Davidson for a two-day meet between the Eagles, Davidson, Gardner-Webb and Liberty.  READ MORE


The Howard men's & women's swimming and diving teams had a busy couple of days over the weekend as the Bison hosted its Senior Day meet against Marymount and headed to Philadelphia for meets with Drexel University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday.

BISON SHINE IN SENIOR DAY SWEEP

In Howard's best performance of the season, both Bison teams earned victories over the visiting Marymount Saints (M: 102-83 / W: 133-60) on Friday evening. It marked the third win of the season of the women's team, the first win in nearly five years for the men and the first time in second-year head coach Nicholas Askew's tenure that the Bison have swept a meet.  READ MORE

The University of the Incarnate Word swimming and diving teams each hosted a home meet on Tuesday at the Anne Barshop Natatorium.  The women lost to Rice, 106-97 while the men lost to SMU, 150-91. (Results)

The women's meet did not include any diving events, but the Cardinals were nearly able to upset the Owls.  Alona Kyselova (Kiev, Ukraine) and Mariana Olguin (Toledo, Brazil) led the way with a pair of individual victories and they teamed with Natalia Hernandez (N. Vancouver, BC) and Dariia Bielousova (Kiev, Ukraine) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:34.91.  READ MORE


Liberty completed a weekend sweep, downing the visiting UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 166-132 in a two-day dual meet that wrapped up on Sunday at LaHaye Aquatics Center.

The Lady Flames improve to 8-5 on the season, including 5-1 in CCSA competition, following today's win. UNC Asheville falls to 3-3, 2-3 against CCSA teams. Liberty is now 1-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, and the Lady Flames have won seven straight dual meets inside Liberty Aquatics Center.  READ MORE

 

The No. 29 FGCU swimming and diving team improved its dual-meet record to 11-1 with a pair of wins against in-state rivals Miami (166-111) and FAU (219-60) at the FAU Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, FGCU improved to 6-1 all-time against the Hurricanes and 9-0 all-time versus the Owls.

The Eagles, who won 10 of 15 events during the meet, were led by Elise Haan (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) and Katie Armitage (Bushey, United Kingdom/Queens School Bushey), who each turned in a pair of first-place finishes. Haan won both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes in times of 55.10 seconds and 2:00.67, respectively, while Armitage finished first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes after touching the pads in 1:02.77 and 2:19.19, respectively. The individual wins marked the 11th and 12th of the season for Haan, who is now 7-0 in the 100-yard backstroke, and the 13th and 14th of the season for Armitage.  READ MORE
