Campbell
Lily Tang and Geena Squartino both recorded top-five finishes Saturday to lead Campbell to a fifth place showing at the All-North Carolina Invitational. In last week’s matchup with Liberty, the Camels trailed the defending CCSA Champion Flames 119-106 with just two races remaining before CU freshman Sindija Silina won the 200 IM with a 2:10.38 with Tang finishing third (2:11.00) to pull the home team within six points. The Camels will head to Nashville, Tenn. next Friday, Oct. 10, taking on Vanderbilt and San Diego State. Campbell will then travel to UNC Asheville on Saturday, Oct. 11. CU returns home Oct. 18, hosting North Carolina A&T.
Florida Gulf Coast
Florida Gulf Coast earned its first-ever win over Florida State to finish third overall in the All-Florida Invite Meet. Over the weekend, the Eagles compiled 661 points to place third, beating FSU in fourth (634) and Miami in fifth (389). Sitting in the lead was host Florida (956), followed by the University of California in second (861). The Eagles continue the season with their first home meet since October 2013 as they welcome CCSA-member Incarnate Word for a night of head-to-head competition on Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
Gardner-Webb
Freshman Lauren Oglesby finished second in the 1,650 yard freestyle (17:11.83) at the NC College Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 4. The women’s team finished in fourth place overall, with 883 points. London Schumacher finished fifth in the 400 IM (4:30.32). Kelsey Williams swam the 50 free and finished fifth (24.36). Kaylee McCallan, Charity Byrum, Mary O'Doherty and Williams swam the 200 medley relay that finished in fifth place (1:47.94).
Georgia Southern
The Eagles begin their season Saturday, Oct. 18 in Atlanta versus Georgia Tech and the University of Pittsburgh.
Howard
Howard began its season Oct. 3 at the Potomac Relays in Washington, D.C. The Bison women finished seventh, competing against Towson, George Mason, Georgetown, American, George Washington, Univ. of Mary Washington and Mount St. Mary's.
Incarnate Word
Incarnate Word begins its season in Houston, Tex., to swim Rice University and the University of Houston.
Liberty
Liberty opened its 2014-15 swimming & diving season with a 140-121 victory over CCSA opponent Campbell, Sept. 26 at Johnson Natatorium. The defending CCSA champion Lady Flames are now 4-2 all-time against the Fighting Camels, winning four meetings in a row. Liberty won both relays, including a 1-2 sweep in the meet-ending 200 freestyle relay. The Lady Flames posted five individual event victories, compared to seven for Campbell. Liberty sophomore Morgan Noonan pocketed a pair of wins, in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Classmate Victoria Tschoke won the 200 back, while senior Emily Duff took first in the 100 free and freshman Rachel Hoeve claimed the 200 free victory.
North Carolina A&T
The North Carolina A&T swimming team opened their season with a 10th-place finish at the All-North Carolina Swimming Invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Aggies compiled 131 points. N.C. State won the event with 1,580 points followed by East Carolina (1,483) and Davidson (1,126). Ariel Wallace competed in five events, including the 50-yard freestyle where she swam a 26.00 to have the fastest time of the other six Aggies competing in the event. She also had the team’s fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly as she recorded a time of 1:04.65 to outpace the other three Aggies competing in the event.
North Florida
The Ospreys had four swimmers qualify for afternoon finals on the last day of the All-Florida Invite. North Florida, as a team, finished in seventh place after the three-day event. Junior Amy Taylor continued her stellar opening weekend by winning her preliminary heat of the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:38.28. Her time landed her an 8th place finish, the highest of any Osprey all weekend. She improved her time from last year's All-Florida Invite by almost 16 seconds. She reached the finals this weekend in three separate events. The Ospreys return to the pool Thursday, Oct. 16 in Pensacola, Fla., to meet Vanderbilt and West Florida.
UNC Asheville
The UNC Asheville women’s swimming team enjoyed a solid opening weekend with a seventh-place finish at the All North Carolina Invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Asheville scored 515 points in the meet and recorded its highest finish ever at the All North Carolina Invitational. Highlighting the Bulldogs performance on Saturday was Galen Broido, as she took fourth in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:48.62. Freshman Emily Werth scored points for the Blue & White with an 11th place finish in the 100 backstroke as she posted a time of 1:00.67. Allesandra Troncoso came in 18th in a strong field in the 100 breaststroke as she had a time of 1:09.34. The Bulldogs return home this weekend as they’ll host Campbell at Justice Center Pool on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
VMI
VMI begins its season Oct. 18 to swim UMBC and Gardner-Webb in Baltimore.
