MACON, Ga. - The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) awarded its inaugural Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor to Tulane's Jackie Wegner. She was joined by nine other beach volleyball student-athletes on the All-Academic Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Wegner, a senior from Clearwater, Fla., has been a steady presence for the Green Wave all season long. She owns a 15-6 overall record playing all her matches at the No. 1 position. Wegner and her playing partner Tea Juric opened the season with 12 wins in their first 13 matches. She has participated in back-to-back AVCA National Pair Championship events.
In the classroom, Wegner holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a Finance major with a Masters in Accounting. Wegner also was part of the first Tulane beach volleyball pair to win 30 matches in a regular season, when she went 30-11 last season.
The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
