ATLANTA, GA. (TheCCSA.com) – Gardner-Webb senior, Nathan Lile, and Old Dominion’s Reed Mathews wrapped up their 2015-16 campaign at the Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship held at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aqautic Center, March 26-29. Both Lile and Reed represented the CCSA in the national championship as two swimmers competed in a combined total of five events.
Lile swam in the 50 free preliminaries on Thursday morning and turned in a time of 19.78 seconds to finish 34th. Thursday evening, he was honored with the NCAA Elite 90 Award, which is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the finals’ site for each of the NCAA’s 90 individual championships. Friday morning’s 100 fly preliminaries saw Lile set a Gardner-Webb program record with a time of 46.26 seconds, which was good for 19th-place and his highest finish at the championship. Lile competed in his last event of his collegiate career in the 100 free preliminaries on Saturday. He touched the pads in 43.55 seconds to finish 36th overall.
The Waynesville, N.C. native holds CCSA all-time records in the 50 free (19.54), 100 fly (46.52), 100 back (47.15) and 100 free (43.05).
Mathews also competed in the 100 fly preliminaries on Friday morning. The senior finished with a time of 47.38 seconds to finish 43rd. Mathews ended his senior campaign with the 200 fly in Saturday morning’s preliminaries as he finished 17th in 1:43.29, missing the finals qualifying mark by just one spot.
A native of Denver, Colo., Mathews ends his ODU career with program records in the 100 and 200 fly and set the CCSA all-time record in the 200 fly (1:43.04).
