CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Florida Gulf Coast freshman Elise Haan (Naples, Fla.) has been named the CCSA Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while teammate Ashley Wright (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) has been named Women’s Diver of the Week for meets contested Jan. 15-16, the CCSA announced Tuesday.
Haan finished first in four events at the double-dual meet versus in-state rivals Miami and FAU. The freshman won both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes, marking her 11th and 12th individual wins of the season in only her seventh week of competition, and was also a member of the first-place 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays. She touched the pads in 55.10 seconds and defeated the field by more than a second in the 100-yard backstroke, improving her record to a perfect 7-0 in the event this season. With her win in the 200-yard backstroke during which she clocked a time of 2:00.67, she finished first in both backstroke events for the fourth time this season.
Wright turned in a personal-best performance off the three-meter boards and finished third in both the low and high dives in Boca Raton on Saturday. With a pair of third-place finishes, she has now finished inside the top-three in six of 12 dives this season. The Port Saint Lucie native's mark of 284.55 off the three-meter board was not only a season-best effort by nearly 10 points, but also ranks as the fourth-best score in FGCU history. Additionally, her score of 273.15 in the one-meter dive was her second best this season and ranks as the fifth-best effort in program history. Wright now owns six of FGCU's all-time top-10 scores in the pair of events in her first season with the Green and Blue.
