CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – FGCU sophomore Christina Kaas Elmgreen (Charlottenlund, Denmark) has been named the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week, while teammate Ashley Wright (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been named the Diver of the Week for meets contested Jan. 23-29, the CCSA announced Tuesday.
In FGCU's second closest dual meet in program history, Kaas Elmgreen was the difference maker with a win in both the 100 (55.91) and 200 fly (2:01.48) against FIU. With the Eagles trailing by eight thru 12 events, she won the 100 fly and gave FGCU a one-point lead to later defeat the Panthers, 152-148. Earlier in the meet, her win in the 200 fly also allowed FGCU to reclaim its early lead.
Wright surpassed the NCAA Zone Diving Standard in the 1m dive (271.42) vs. FAU and 3m dive (286.73) at FIU. It was her fourth time she passed the mark in the 1m dive this season and second time in the 3m dive. Wright's 3m dive at FIU was not only a new personal record, but also the fourth best in program history, while her total in the 1m dive vs. FAU also ranks 10th in program history.
Also nominated for Swimmer of the Week: Danielle Brown (Howard), Caroline Clark (Campbell), Bre Stuart (Georgia Southern), and Alicia Finnigan (Liberty).
