RADFORD, Va. – Patrick Pyrch has been named Radford University's diving coach, first-year head coach Ian Coffey announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Pyrch comes to the New River Valley after gaining 35 years of competition and coaching experience in the northeast, including the last 20 years in his home state of Connecticut. Since 1994, he was head coach of the Connecticut Elite Divers' springboard diving program. During his time in East Lyme, his athletes dove at the state, region and national level.

In addition to working with the club program, Pyrch received his first taste of collegiate coaching when he was named Wesleyan University's head diving coach in 1994. He spent 12 seasons with the Cardinals, where he groomed four Division III All-Americans and National Championship qualifiers.

Along with developing All-Americans, Pyrch was one himself. While competing at Washington and Jefferson College (Washington, Pa.), Pyrch was a seven-time All-American between 1978-83 and won the 1980 Division III 3-Meter Board National Championship.

Following his completion of collegiate competition, Pyrch returned to his home state and joined the club coaching ranks. He served as the assistant age group coach (1983-94) with the JP Divers in New Haven, Conn., a club associated with Yale and Southern Connecticut State University.

A certified United States Diving Safety Certified Coach, Pyrch recently earned his B.S. in business administration from Charter Oak State College in August, 2012.
