Gardner-Webb and UMBC were in the pool on Friday in men’s CCSA non-conference action. Gardner-Webb took on Queens University while UMBC hosted the Naval Academy.
GARDNER-WEBB DROPS DUAL MEET AT QUEENS ON FRIDAY
Queens' men's swim team won 10 of 11 events, and the Royals' women's squad won 9 events as the Runnin' Bulldogs men's and women's swim teams dropped their respective season-opening dual meets on Friday.
In the men's 200 medley relay, GWU was edged by Queens (1:34.13). The quartet of Colin James, Jordan Denmark, Matt Anderson, and Tate Warden raced to a collective time of 1:34.76 to secure a second place finish in the event. FULL STORY
UMBC SWEEPS RELAYS BUT FALLS TO NAVY IN DUAL MEET
The UMBC swimming and diving teams swept all four relay events, but it was not enough as Navy swept the Retrievers in a dual meet, Friday afternoon at the UMBC Aquatic Complex. The Midshipmen won the men’s meet, 154.5-145.5.
The men were looking to defeat the Mids for the second straight year after last season’s 156-144 victory and they received two wins apiece from seniors Evan Carey and Mohamed Hussein. Just before the first intermission Carey claimed the 50 free (21.57) and then doubled his winnings straight out of the gate with a victory in the 100 free (47.20). Hussein, meanwhile, claimed the 100 back (50.57) title before taking top honors in the 200 IM (1:54.10). Both Carey and Hussein were apart of each of the Retrievers’ relay wins. FULL STORY
