CCSA Divers Conclude Season at NCAA Zone Diving Championships

Butler Places 35th in 3-meter Prelims at NCAA Diving Zones  

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Maegan Butler took 35th place in the 3-meter preliminaries at the 2013 NCAA Diving Zone B on Monday at the at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Butler finished with a score of 220.30 in the prelims as the top 18 times qualified for the finals of the event, Laura Ryan of Georgia place first in the finals with a score 345.95. 

On Tuesday, Butler will compete in the women's 1-meter board event scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with prelims and the finals beginning at 1:15 p.m.

Butler had a memorable senior campaign for the Eagles, earning the CCSA's Most Outstading Diver of the Meet for the second consecutive year.  Butler won both the 1-meter and 3-meter board, and set a meet record in the 3-meter event at the 2013 CCSA Championships. The Orangeburg, N.Y product, also garnered four CCSA Diver of the Week awards.

The Green and Blue finished the regular season with a 9-2 dual meet record (4-0 CCSA) and won their fifth-straight CCSA Championship

 

 

Butler Finishes 28th in 1-meter Diving Prelims at NCAA Diving Zones

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Maegan Butler of the FGCU swimming and diving team, took 28th place in the 1-meter preliminaries at the 2013 NCAA Diving Zone B on Tuesday at the at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Butler finished with a score of 226.55 in the prelims as the top 18 scores qualified for the finals of the event, as Rachel Mumma of N.C. State won the finals with a score of 599.40.

Butler placed 35th in the 3-meter board event Monday with a score of 220.30.

Monuszko, Burton-Akright Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Zone Meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Davidson divers Kaliya Burton-Akright and Karen Monuszko finished the 2013 season with the 1-meter diving preliminary competition at the NCAA B Zone meet at the University of Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon.

Burton-Akright found herself in contention for the national meet through three rounds of dives, but could not hold on.  She posted a score of 214.40 to take 31st place at the event.  Burton-Akright picked up her best score of the day on her first dive, an inward one and a half somersault in the pike positions.  She accrued 42.00 points from the judges on the dive, which had a 2.4-degree of difficulty.

Monuszko took 38th place with 189.90 points in the competition.  She received 35.56 points from the judges on her fourth dive of the day, a forward dive featuring two somersaults in the pike position.

 

 

Meisenhelder Concludes Junior Campaign at Zones

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Diver Sara Meisenhelder finished out a stellar junior year at the 2013 NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday March 12.  The junior competed in the three and one-meter dive among the best divers in the southeast region.

On day one, Meisenhelder performed in the three-meter dive and finished 36th out of 40 competitors, above two fellow CCSA Divers and one spot below reigning CCSA Champion Meagan Butler from Florida Gulf Coast with a score of 219.45.

On Tuesday, Meisenhelder placed 35th out of 38 divers on the one-meter board, scoring 202.55.

The junior qualified for the meet in January with a school and pool record breaking one-meter dive score of 281.70 against Darton at the Recreation Activity Center in Statesboro, Ga. and is the only Eagle to ever have competed at Zones.

Meisenhelder finished second in the three-meter dive at the CCSA Championships as well as third in the one-meter dive. She also set a new school record for the three-meter dive as a sophomore in 2012.

 

 

 

Gibbons Concludes Decorated Career At NCAA Zones Meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - College of Charleston senior diver Peter Gibbons completed his illustrious career by competing at the NCAA Zones Meet in Knoxville, Tenn., this week.

 

A native of Fairfax, Va., Gibbons finished 32nd in the one-meter preliminary dives with a score of 224.1.  Gibbons was the first male diver from College of Charleston to ever qualify for the NCAA's regional meet which determines the participants for the NCAA National Championships.

Gibbons won the 2013 CCSA Men's Diver of the Year honor for the third-straight season after he set a new conference record in the one-meter dive with a score of 320.45 just a few weeks ago at the CCSA Championships.

He holds both school records in the one-meter and three-meter dives and has won CCSA titles in the last three seasons.  He has also been named the CCSA Male Diver of the Week 15 times in his four-year career.
