The FGCU Swimming and Diving team concluded the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Sunday afternoon as it finished the event in second place with 1031.5 points. The Eagles set 10 new program records throughout the three-day invitational.
Florida State finished first with 1673 points, followed by FGCU, Miami (772), Georgia Tech (674) and Alabama (435.5) to round out the top five teams.
Freshman Jennifer Morgan won the first event for the Eagles when she placed first in the 200-yard backstroke and set a new program record with a time of 1:57.32. The previous record was 1:58.33 set by Viktoria Hyddmark back in 2009.
Sophomore Emma Svensson added to the Eagles point total in the next event when she placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.33.
The Eagles picked up their second first-place finish when freshman Julie Leth-Espensen won the 200-yard breaststroke and broke a program record with a time of 2:13.19.
Senior Eva Lehtonen finished in fourth place of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.94.
In the final event of the competition, the Eagles took home a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of freshman Sara Hamilton, Morgan, Lehtonen and Svensson finished with a time of 3:24.36.
The Eagles will be back in action on January 5, when they host a tri-meet against CCSA opponents Georgia Southern and Liberty at the FGCU Aquatics Center. The competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
