The University of North Florida swimming team finished the third and final day of the SCAD Invitational at the Chatham County Aquatic Center hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, claiming third in the competition.
Wingate claimed the 2012 SCAD Invite title, followed by meet-host SCAD. UNF earned third place in front of Converse, Brenau, Darton State, Saint Leo, Berry, South Georgia and Thomas.
The day started for the Ospreys with the 200-yard medley relay. The North Florida relay team of Ellice Mae Sanchez, Bridget Woods, Lissa Janowicz and Natalie McCallum posted a time of 1:51.64. The second quartet for UNF in the race - Kristina Alexiou, Sara Evans, Maria Bernard and Rebeca Bernard - posted a time of 1:57.12.
In the 200 individual medley finals, Evans and Woods finished back-to-back to lead the Ospreys in the event. Evans posted a time of 2:09.84 - her third fastest time of the year to pace the UNF attack. Woods' time of 2:12.37 placed the sophomore just behind Evans. McCallum was also in the finals and the sophomore notched a time of 2:15.96.
Three Ospreys advanced to the finals of the 100 freestyle. Sanchez was the top finisher for North Florida, clocking a season-best time of 54.81. Twin sisters R. Bernard and M. Bernard finished back-to-back with times of 55.59 and 55.63, respectively.
A pair of North Florida freshmen and a sophomore competed in the finals of the 500 freestyle. Rookies Olivia Langford (5:08.84) and Amy Taylor (5:15.74) were the top two finishers for UNF, followed by Janowicz (5:21.27).
Sanchez was the top finisher for the Ospreys in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:12.09. She was joined by Alexiou (2:11.71) and Taylor (2:17.74).
The 100 breaststroke, Woods was the top performer, registering a time of 1:06.79 to take bronze in the event. The time was the second-best of the season for the sophomore. McCallum and Katie England also advanced to the finals with McCallum clocking a time of 1:10.91 followed by England's 1:10.92.
The 200 butterfly saw a pair of Ospreys finish in the top 8 of the finals. Evans clocked a time of 2:11.12, while Janowicz was just off the pace with a time of 2:14.70.
In the final event of the meet, the quartet of R. Bernard, Sanchez, M. Bernard and Langford posted a time of 3:37.97 in the 400 freestyle relay to pace the Ospreys. Janie Kennedy, Caitlyn Gutierrez, England and Woods notched a time of 3:45.60 to provide crucial points in the final event to secure the team's third place finish.
North Florida returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 15 as the Ospreys travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Daytona State College in a dual meet slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
